I like to travel and for me is always interesting to see how each culture has its own food traditions.
I’m Brazilian and I like sweets very much. So, today I decide to write about the BRIGADEIRO!
What is brigadeiro?
Brigadeiro (Portuguese for Brigadier) is a time-honored delicacy: it is the most traditional sweet known and loved by all Brazilians. This sweet get this name in the president election from 1945, but exact when and where the brigadeiro was invented is uncertain. During that time, it was difficult to find fresh milk and sugar to make any kind of desserts. Because of this, it was discovered that if one mixed and cook together sweet condensed milk and cacao powder, the result would be a delicious sweet treat. The Brigadier Eduardo Gomes use this sweet in his campaign in 1945 for president and it get famous as his preferred sweet – The Brigadeiro‘s candy!
Because this sweet treat is so versatile, he is now made in a whole world of flavors, like coconut, coffee, churros, caipirinha, nuts and much more The various tastes and combinations make it a delight — and an ideal gift. When you offer a handmade, fresh and beautiful brigadeiros box, is no one that doesn’t like it! Even outside of Brazil!
Now I’m living in Poland… no brigadeiros here to buy… but because the ingredients are very easy to find in a supermarket, so I making my own sweeties!
