During a long time, I was dreaming about, thinking about, planning and so many pages written in my notes book about to have a blog. How can I start? I saw some Blogs and was thinking that for me it will be too difficult or expensive to do something so nice! Not only nice but modern and functional. So, I continue searching for blogs from entrepreneurs that are writing about how to start a personal blog. Some posts are so difficult to follow and give me many times the feeling I cannot do it… this was the feeling until I found the right help and very important, the right tools!
I am 51 years old and I work in the IT sector as developer and software tester from Databases in the IBM in Germany. I’m not so the absolute beginner, but it’s a while ago and this area develops so incredibly fast and things from a few years ago are already a bit outdated. Anyway, developing Java or writing SQL queries for databases are far away from web development!
The Tools to Realize this Project
After long reading and searching on the internet, I found platforms and templates that somebody already develops for make my project possible for a very fair price. My website is a WordPress blog and I think this was one of the best decisions. After this choice, I start searching a theme that fit my blog. Exist so many of them but I had a specific idea about the appearance and functionality. And this I found with the REFINED Theme from Restore316.
The installation and support are very easy and great. Always a nice help and very quick answer to any question. This theme is very flexible so I can adjust as I like it.
To be possible to use this Theme I also had to install the Genesis Framework from Studiopress.
Was not a problem at all. Just follow the instructions, keep the right sequence and all was installed quick and perfect to start configuration!
Now, for me come the question about how I can configure all without being visible online at the same time. The answer was given by the team from Restore316: install the Plugin WP Maintenance Mode and activate the Maintenance mode. So I could have a Comming Soon page during setup time. Works fine!
Well, so the structure was setup but I needed one more thing: an additional plug-in to make it possible to translate the blog in more 3 languages. I select the WPML Plugin and it works fine!
Choices I don’t regret
My experience until now? Super! I’m very satisfied with my choice! NO STRESS! For every step, I always had good support and documentation sites, so not often I had to contact the support because I face a problem… OK, I have to say that my IT experience makes it a bit easier but if you don’t have any experience, it will take maybe just more time, but is possible to do it.
Now I’m creating contend and translating. It’s just fun to do it and after 6 days installing and configuring (and in this days I still was relatively busy with other things…), I can enjoy the feeling that is getting format!
Next step will be to grow in the expertise of writing, photography, translations and also technical things to make this blog better and better!
