As I write in my post about crochet, my last winter crochet piece was a crochet bag, but still was missing the closure. Now I’m happy that I can share with you a quick and easy closure for a Crochet Tote Bag. About the bag: sizes are 33 cm large and 26 cm high. Is lined inside with a cotton fabric. The handles from crochet have inside a nylon cord, so they will not stretch.
What you will need for the Closure
You will need the ready crochet bag, a ring or big button in diameter from around 4 cm. I use a metal ring that I had at home, one small metal bead (optional). Crochet yarn matching the bag, crochet hook and a needle for sewing.
Make a magic loop or other foundation ring. The first row: make 8 single crochet (sc) stitches. Join with a slip stitch to form a ring. The second row: make 2 sc into each stitch from the previous row. The third row: make 2 sc into the first stitch, 1 sc in the next stitch and repeat so till the end of the row and join with a slip stitch. The fourth row: make 2 sc into one stitch, 2 times 1 sc into next 2 stitches and repeat till end of the row and join with a slip stitch. Make so many rows as needed to catch the size of your ring or button.
When you have the same size like your ring, repeat the last row without increasing.
The next row starts decreasing by joining 2 stitches every 8 sc. Next row joins 2 sc every 6 sc. You will need to decrease depending on the size of your ring. I suggest after the first row decreasing, you insert the ring and keep crocheting and decrease so the ring is tied in the crochet cover. Close at the end the last stitches and work the yarn tail into the circle.
Now you start the stripe in the middle of the back side from the bag and make 6 sc. work up to the length that you like and make the finishing on the side from the stripe with sc back to the start place on the back of the bag and also down the second side.
Cut the yarn longer to sew the crochet button on the end.
Now you can make a tassel for the finishing, and decorate according to you like in your project.
